Calibrated HydraSleeve Tether

HydraSleeves can be installed using any kind of line or tether that you utilize for other groundwater sampling methods.  It's not absolutely necessary to use our tether; but it does have some advantages.

Since the1-foot  markings are sequential (numbered 1-2000), it can be relied upon for proper placement of HydraSleeve at specific depths in the well.  Also using our clips with the flat, woven polyester tape also ensured a double-secure connection because our clips can pierce the tether and then also be secured with a knot.

HydraSleeve tether is 3/8-inch flat woven polyester.

Advantages to using HydraSleeve tether:

  1. The markings are easy to read
  2. 1250 Pound tensil strength
  3. Secure connection (pierce with clips and also knot)
  4. At just $0.10 per foot, it's very economical
  5. Can be used for other applications

Disadvantages

  1. Available in only 1 size, 2000 feet
  2. Can stick to the well walls in high humidity environments.  Using a heavier weight will eliminate this problem.

PLEASE NOTE:  We do not recommend using our tether when sampling for PFC/PFA's using the HDPE HydraSleeve.  Any other kind of cable or line made of a material that is not prohibited from being on site can be used.

HydraSleeve Passive/No-Purge Sampling Cost Advantages

hydrasleeve passive no-purge sampling cost advantage

HydraSleeve Advantages

  1. Samples all contaminants.

  2. Very Simple to use, minimal training...repeatable sampling events.

  3. Most cost effective of the no-purge devices.  Average, firt time, reusable cost per well ~$40-$50...Average expendable costs ~$20-$25 per well.  Average time to sample a 50' well ~17 minutes.

  4. Not an all or nothing proposition.  Little or no well modification needed.  Don't have to sample all the wells all the time.

  5. Minimal displacement and stress on the well.  In some cases eliminates need for equilibration period.

  6. Provides greatest sample volume of all no-purge/passive samplers.

  7. Maximum sample volume per dollar of all no-purge/passive devices.

  8. Will function under adverse ground water chemistry conditions.

  9. Can remain in the well years between sample events.

Top Weight for 1-inch HydraSleeve

1intopwt 009

Some customers with 1-inch wells, can also have short water columns for which top weights are needed when using HydraSleeves.

Please see the 1-inch Top weight for the new 1-inch SkinnySleeves, which were introduced in January 2015. oscillate

This top weight will operate in a similar fashion to the SuperSleeve top weights.  The top weight is threaded onto the bottom threads of the 1-inch PVC Collar which holds the HydraSleeve in place.

Please see the assembly instructions at this link.

The 1-inch Top Weight will compress the 48-inch long 1-inch HydraSleeve to within 3 feet of the bottom of the well.  It doesn't give much compression because there simply is no room for the sleeve to bunch up.  Therefore, to use the 1-inch HydraSleeve with the top weight effectively you may need to use an alternate method of retrieval.  The short cycle method will most likely work better than a continuous pull retrieval.  See the HydraSleeve Field Manual for more information.

PLEASE NOTE:  DUE TO THE DECREASED I.D. OF THE TOP WEIGHT COMPARED TO THE O.D. OF THE 1-INCH HYDRASLEEVE, CAPCACITY OF THE SLEEVE WILL BE REDUCED TO ~250MLS (MAX VOLUME) WHEN USING THE TOP WEIGHT.

Four components are necessary for the Top-weighted 1-inch HydraSleeve.  Please see ordering information below:

1-inch HydraSleeve $30.00 (disposable)

PVC Collar with Clip $25.00 (reusable)

1-inch Top Weight $40.00 (reusable)

8-ounce Bottom Weight (reusable)

Passive Sampling Cost Model

We always talk about how much money can be saved by switching to HydraSleeve use or any passive/no-purge groundwater sampling method.  In general HydraSleeve use can save 50-80% cost and energy savings when compared to traditional 3-volume purge groundwater sampling and low-flow sampling.

Most people would like to know exactly how much can be saved in their particular situation?   What are the numbers for you?  To answer those questions, we would like to share the following links for you to use in determining just that.

The cost model was developed by the Interstate Technology & Regulatory Council (ITRC) a number of years ago but the calculations still apply today.  It was originally intended for use in comparing passive diffusion bags to traditional sampling methods.    The same information can be used to compare other passive/no-purge samplers including our HydraSleeves.
